The Egbema and Gbaramatu and Community Development Foundation (EGCDF), has donated food items worth millions of naira to mitigate the sufferings of the people orchestrated by the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In his speech during the handing over of the items to the communities, Comrade Jude Ebitimi Ukori, Executive Chairman, EGCDF said the purpose of the donation was to mitigate the sufferings of the people of Egbema and Gbaramatu kingdoms in Warri North and South West Local Government Areas of Delta state respectively.
He said the items given to the communities were bags of Garri, gallons of oil and detergents because they where aware that they are going to stay at home for 14 days and experience a lot of hardship.
“This is indeed a challenging time for the whole world, it is an unusual time for us in the world. So I want to challenge our people to adhere to all government orders.
“The COVID-19 is already in Nigeria, we should advise ourselves to stay at home and strictly adhere to the orders of Federal and State Governments to ensure that the virus did not cause more harm to us.
“This is not time for partying and gathering but time for social distancing, washing of our hands and staying at home and follow government orders for the 14 days.
“We strongly believe that COVID-19 is a stranger and it must go out of Niger Delta and we strongly believe that the food will get to the communities to mitigate the sufferings of the people.
“I advised the representatives of the communities whom we handed over the food items to, ensure that they get to the people of the various communities .
Ukori appealed to the Delta State Government to pay special attention to the riverine communities because they are in a difficult terrain which cannot be compared to other communities in the upland.
